FIRE SAFETY TRAINING

GENERAL FIRE SAFETY

This is a one-hour certified training course which is suitable for all delegates. It can be completed as Face-to-Face training, or online via Microsoft Teams/ Zoom. The course should be carried out annually for all staff and comprises the following aspects of Fire Safety:

  • Legal responsibilities.

  • Active and passive fire protection measures in your premises.

  • Periodic safety checks and basic fire prevention.

  • Fire chemistry and main cause of fire.

  • Actions in the event of a fire and notifying the Fire Service.

  • Evacuation procedures, including assisted evacuation and Personal Emergency Evacuation Plans (PEEPs).

EVACUATON CHAIR TRAINNG

Evacuation Chair training lasts one hour, allowing a maximum number of 6-8 people per session. This is due to the course being a practical session, insuring full participation of attendees.

This training is aimed at those with PEEPs in place, who need assistance from upper floors in the event of a fire, and would be ideal for staff trained as Fire Wardens.

The training should be reviewed 3 yearly by a qualified training provider, however it is recommended that 3 monthly familiarisation is carried out internally.

FIRE WARDEN TRAINING

This is a two-part session, the first of which is classroom based, and limited to a maximum of 12 people per session. Following this there will be one hour of hands on fire extinguisher training. Further content will include:

  • A detailed understanding of the Fire Safety Systems within the premises.

  • Application of the Fire Safety Procedures for the premises.

  • Situation awareness and hazard identification for premises’ managers.

  • Roles, responsibilities, communication and effective delegation in the event of a fire.

  • Control of contractors and hot works.

  • Risk escalation protocols, including acting on ‘information’.

  • Liaison with the emergency services.

  • First aid firefighting - practical session (using extinguishers and fire blankets).

SUPERVISED FIRE DRILLS

The purpose of a fire drill is to ensure all staff experience what the fire alarm sounds like, and to understand the fire procedures for their premises, including actions to be taken on discovering a fire, and actions to be taken on hearing the alarm.

Ideally a fire drill should be completed annually for all staff.

FRSNI will provide a written report on completion of the fire drill for the client’s records.
